Are you Feeling Stuck in Your Business?

Sometimes we can get stuck in our businesses. You know that feeling of doing a lot of things, but nothing is moving you forward. But yet we still keep adding more and more to what we are doing thinking that all those additions will help, but they don’t. Then we get to the end of the month or end of the quarter and we can see that we are no further ahead than where we were a month ago or in the previous quarter. That’s the stuck feeling that I’m talking about.

Feeling Stuck?

There are a lot of aspects of your business that connect to the strategy that you want to develop or improve in your business. Involved in the strategy are actions and tasks. These are key for helping to prevent us from getting stuck in our businesses.

Yes, we can get stuck in our businesses. I am talking about that feeling of doing a lot of things, but none of those actions are actually moving you forward. But for some reason,  we still keep adding more and more thinking that all those additions will help, but they don’t. To be honest, it makes its worse.

This is the stuck feeling that I’m talking about. So in this article, I will
be sharing with you a strategy that you can use to help you get unstuck in your business.

It may have just been you when you started your business or maybe you and a partner. It is possible that you are thinking about keeping it with just you or the two of you. Or maybe you are wanting to grow the business to a specific number of employees in 3 or 5 years.

Regardless of which option you are wanting for your business, there are specific functions and skills that you will need to keep your business moving forward.

Yes, as an entrepreneur we wear many hats, especially at the beginning. But as we grow, we start to lose some of those hats when we bring on employees, contractors, and vendors. As we grow, we have to redefine our goals, functions, and even our skills. The reason being that as we grow, our roles are going to be changing within the organization.

If we don’t change our mindset with that growth, we are likely to become stuck. We are likely to be focusing on several different things and not getting anything accomplished. The reason why your mindset is important with getting unstuck is because with change comes new roles, new functions, and a need for new talent. We might not always be ready for the change.

Task Analysis

As you are growing and feeling like you have a never-ending list of tasks to do, you might not be realizing that you have a need for hiring the talent needed to get some of those tasks done. This is where a task analysis can come in to save the day.

When you redefine your goals, you will need to also look at the tasks needed to reach those goals. The task analysis is the strategic process that you do to identify and outline the tasks that you will need to reach those goals. Once you identify the tasks, then you will need to identify the objectives.

But the task analysis doesn’t end there. You will then need to identify all of the smaller tasks that you will need to complete to reach your objectives so that you can complete the big task. But you will also need to outline the steps that you need to follow to complete each of the subtasks that you identified.

By the time you are finished with your task analysis, you should have the hierarchy of the tasks, associated subtasks, and the steps that you need to complete for each task. Now before you go running to implement your plan, you need to assess whether you have the skills needed to complete the tasks that you identified.

If you have a partner, do they have the skills necessary for completing some of the tasks. If so, which tasks? Also, the same question has to be answered if you have employees or team members.

The important next step is assigning the tasks to the right people with the right skills to complete the tasks. Remember, you want to get your business unstuck and moving forward. This means truly being aware of your skillset and the skillset of your partner or team members so that you can assign tasks appropriately to get things done!

Summary

You can always work with a business coach who has experience in psychometrics to help you with completing your task analysis so you can get unstuck or you can choose to do it all on your own. The choice is yours.
